The World’s Largest Aloe Statue


The House of Aloes, or better known as Alcare Aloe in Albertinia, has added a new landmark to the Garden Route in the Western Cape by constructing a Giant Statue of the indigenous Cape Aloe plant (Aloe ferox), as tourist attraction and landmark. This, all in honour and celebration of the plant itself, as well as the founders of the aloe industry in South Africa.

During the latter half of 2008, the idea and concept of such a statue was presented by Mr. Basson Piek, Chief Executive Officer of The House of Aloes, to its Board of Directors and was subsequently accepted in principle. Mr. Dirk van Wyk, a well-known sculptor from George was tasked to quote on the project which was eventually accepted during February 2009.
